Tips for Searching

Searching ERMA New Zealand's online registers

ERMA New Zealand's online register is the most convenient way to find information on New Organism and Hazardous Substance applications. The online register contains New Organism and Hazardous Substance that have been given a Part V approval or Hazardous Substances that have been transferred. However, it does not currently list transferred explosives, substances that have been given an HS-6 match or organisms in New Zealand prior to July 1998.

There are two methods to search the register: Basic and advanced. Basic search allows you to search by substance/organism name. Advanced allows other fields to be used such as applicant, application code, date, CAS number etc.

Basic Search

Basic search is available from the ERMA New Zealand home page. The search box is located near the bottom of the page in the centre. It is the lower of the two search boxes. To search, type the name of a substance/organism into the search box and press your 'enter' key, or click 'Search'. The search covers 'official' names as well as trade names and common synonyms. A maximum of 100 results are returned.

Advanced search

Advanced search is available by following the 'Advanced register search' link below the basic search box on the home page to the register search page.

Using the advanced search you can use as many or as few fields as you like. By default, the search query will match all fields that you use (Boolean AND). A maximum of 100 results are returned.

Results

Both Basic and Advanced searches will return the same style result page. It will have:

  • The substance/organism name - this links to the details about that substance/organism
  • Trade or other names - contains trade names, synonyms
  • The applicant's name
  • The purpose of the application
  • The application status

From here you can either click the substance/organism name to get more detail on that substance/organism or go back to search again.

Detailed results

As well as the above, detailed results include:

  • Documentation - links to PDF and/or word documents
    • Controls
    • Application Summary
    • Full application
    • Evaluation and Review report
    • Authority decision
  • Dates
  • Link to all substances/organisms included in that application
