The public registers are a statutory requirement under the HSNO Act. The register information includes application summary documents, decisions (with any relevant controls), and the status of applications which have not yet been decided. The authorative documents are those held at the offices of ERMA New Zealand.

The HSNO Act provides for certain applications to be publicly notified and others to be non-notified, however, all applications can be seen on the register once they have been formally received.
