ERMA to host risk management conference

The Environmental Risk Management Authority and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry are to host this year’s annual conference of the Society for Risk Analysis - Australia New Zealand (SRA-ANZ) in September.

The society provides an open forum for anyone interested in risk and risk analysis. Last year it named ERMA New Zealand Principal Policy Analyst Janet Gough as President Elect. Mrs Gough will take up the presidency following this year’s conference.

Her selection was hailed by Authority Chair Richard Woods as “a great honour for Janet, and a great honour for ERMA”.

“Janet Gough’s expertise and work at ERMA New Zealand has elevated the quality of information put forward for our consideration and enhanced the rigour of the decision-making framework,” Mr Woods said.

The conference will be the fourth for the Australasian regional organisation, which exists primarily to promote best practice risk analysis and provide networks in the region.

Topics to be covered at the conference will include the role of risk analysis decision-making in regulatory applications, biosecurity and resource allocation.

It will be preceded by two workshops which will be open to all conference participants. Dr Keith Hayes from the Australian Commonwealth Scientific and Research Organisation (CSIRO) will run a workshop on uncertainty and Dr Karen Cronin from Environmental Science and Research (ESR) will run a workshop on risk communication.
