Reassessment of an application is where the risks and benefits associated with an organism are reconsidered. Section 62 and 63 of the HSNO Act provide for new organisms in containment to be reassessed. As a result of that reconsideration the Authority of ERMA New Zealand may decide to change the conditions placed on the approval, or in extreme cases withdraw the approval altogether.
The reassessment process has two steps:
- The Authority must agree that there are grounds for a reassessment
(that is, new information has been found or there has been a change
in use);
- Any person can make an application for the reassessment of an existing
decision which is processed by the same pathway as the initial application.
A first instalment fee must be paid with the application ($3,000 + GST). In addition to the initial fee, our process is cost-recovered. Therefore further processing costs above the initial fee are likely.
The costs of preparing applications for grounds for reassessment, and for reassessment are generally borne by the person making the application.
