How to establish if an Organism is 'new'

To establish if an organism is new you may:

  1. Check what organisms are already legally present in New Zealand; or
  2. Apply to ERMA New Zealand for a formal determination of new organism status.

Note that all organism imports are subject to Biosecurity New Zealand's biosecurity requirements. Therefore you should also contact Biosecurity New Zealand if you wish to import a new organism.
