A hearing into an application from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) to import a number of microorganisms into containment will be held this Thursday, 30 March at the Bay Plaza Hotel, Wellington.
Chair of the decision making committee, Max Suckling, said the application involved importing the microorganisms for diagnostic and reference purposes under the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms (HSNO) Act 1996.
The HSNO Act is administered by ERMA New Zealand.
The hearing follows public submissions on the application which closed, 16 th June 2005, Dr Suckling said.
"Following the hearing, the committee will consider information presented, before announcing its decision," he said.
