Three new members have been appointed to the Environmental Risk Management Authority by the Minister for the Environment, effective from 1 November 2000.

ERMA
New Zealand Chief Executive, Dr Bas Walker acknowledged the contributions
of the outgoing Authority members.
New Chairperson of the Authority, Jill White.
"The Authority was established in 1996 under innovative legislation, with a new and demanding role to make decisions about 'new organisms' and 'hazardous substances' coming into New Zealand. I have enjoyed working with the Chairman and Board members on the challenging issues that we have faced over the last four years."
Dr Walker welcomed the latest appointments and said he was looking forward to working with them.
"The Authority has a unique and sometimes difficult task, to evaluate proposals and their potential risks for the environment and public health. Next year we'll start hearing applications for hazardous substances and so the wide range of skills and expertise on the Authority will be extremely valuable."
Ends.
