The Environmental Risk Management Authority has issued group standards for surface coatings and colourants.
These group standards were issued in accordance with the requirements of Part 6A of the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms (HSNO) Act 1996. The group standards came into force on 1 July 2006.
The Surface Coatings and Colourants Group Standards include any material used as an adhesive, dye, ink, paint, pigment, or graphic material, including any raw materials used in the manufacture of these materials.
Amendments to Group Standards for Surface Coatings and Colourants (June 2009)
In June 2009, a new Group Standard for Graphic Materials was issued as the sole means of compliance for finger paints, children's crayons and children's water colour paints. The Group Standards for Surface Coatings and Colourants have been amended to exclude finger paints, children's crayons and children's water colour paints; and to include graphic materials (other than finger paints, children's crayons and children's water colour paints) that are manufactured articles.
