Emergency Release of a Hazardous Substance

An emergency in this context means a foreseeable event. An example for hazardous substances would be for a new dispersing agent to combat a particular type of oil spill. An approval would mean that this substance (which may not meet approval requirements under other sections) could be used but only for this particular emergency.

Applications to ERMA New Zealand for a hazardous substance to be used in an emergency should be made in advance (ie in anticipation that the emergency may arise at some future time) so that the substance is available if and when required.
