Proposals for Amendments to the Hazardous Substances (Fireworks) Regulations 2001

At the ERMA New Zealand / Retail Fireworks Industry liaison meeting held in Auckland on 6 December 2007, proposals for further amendments to the Hazardous Substances (Fireworks) Regulations 2001 were discussed. The intent of these proposals is to lead to better control over the acceptable level of percussive effect of retail fireworks.

ERMA New Zealand is now formally seeking submissions on the proposals for changes to the Hazardous Substances (Fireworks) Regulations 2001. The attached consultation document outlines the changes proposed and presents a number of questions relating to the changes for which comment is specifically requested.

Submissions on this discussion document will close on 15 February 2008.

It is very important that you provide us with your comments by way of a submission as your input will be carefully considered in determining the nature and scope of any recommendations that will be put forward to the Ministry for the Environment in respect of regulation amendments.

Thank you, in anticipation, for your assistance with this process for improving the HSNO controls in this area. If you want any further information on the proposals in the attached document or on the amendment process being followed, please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to your response.
